Competitor figures are estimates, not quotes, and exclude VAT and any monthly fees. Our figure uses Stripe's standard UK card rate; premium and non-UK cards cost more. Before parts and your own costs.
We're the middleman. Nothing more.
Our aim is simply to be the intermediary between drivers and local mechanics: connect people who need work doing with good mechanics nearby, then get out of the way. We find the customer, fix the price, take the payment and handle the admin. You do the work and keep the money.
That's why we charge a flat £5 instead of a slice of every invoice. The bigger the job, the more you keep, so choosing us means more of your income stays with you.
Same fixed prices. More in your pocket.
Customers get the same kind of instant fixed price they're used to from the big platforms, across our 126 most-booked jobs: servicing, MOT, brakes, clutches, timing belts, diagnostics and more. On the 109 jobs where ClickMechanic publishes a comparable price, ours is set just below theirs for each car size they show: their price less 1%, rounded up to the next pound and always under theirs. The rest are priced from standard labour times and parts costs.
The difference is what happens after the job: instead of losing around a fifth to commission, you pay £5 and the card fee. More money back in your pocket on every job.
Founding member questions
What exactly do I pay?
A flat £5 per completed booking, plus Stripe's card handling fee on what the customer paid (from 1.5% + 20p on standard UK cards; premium and non-UK cards cost more and Stripe sets those rates). Both come off the payment automatically before it's sent to you. Nothing else: no sign-up fee, no monthly fee, no commission and no fee for cancelled jobs.
What does "locked in for life" mean?
If you join the list by 30 November 2026, your platform fee stays at £5 per completed booking for as long as you have a MyLocalMechanic mechanic account, even if the fee goes up for mechanics who join later. Stripe's card fee is charged by Stripe, not us, so that part could change if Stripe changes its prices.
Does joining the list mean I'm approved?
No. The list reserves your founding rate and gets you launch news for your area. To take jobs you still apply and we check your qualifications and insurance, usually within 2 working days. Use the same email address so we can match you up.
Who sets the prices customers pay?
We do, so you never have to quote or bid. Every job has a fixed price worked out from labour time, parts and car size, set just below what the big platforms charge. You choose which jobs to accept.
How do I get paid?
The customer's card is held at booking and charged when they approve the finished job. We send your money to your bank through Stripe, minus the £5 fee and the card fee.
Is there a contract or minimum number of jobs?
No contract and no minimums. Take as many or as few jobs as you like, pause any time, and leave whenever you want.
What do you do with my details?
We use them only to email you about MyLocalMechanic for mechanics. We don't sell or share them. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time. See our privacy policy.
* Where the competitor figures come from
Figures are our estimates from each platform's published or reported rates, checked in November 2026. Platforms can change their fees and some rates vary by job, so check with them before comparing.
- ClickMechanic says it charges commission on completed bookings and that rates can vary by job; it doesn't publish the rate (ClickMechanic help). A 20% commission was reported by TechCrunch (2015) and Business Insider (2017), and Bodyshop Magazine (Feb 2025) reported about £5m revenue on about £25m of work in 2024, which is roughly 20%. ClickMechanic's mechanics page says VAT is charged on its commission; we've shown 20% before VAT.
- Fixter (garages, with collection and delivery) pays garages a negotiated rate rather than charging a fee; Zepros (June 2022) reported this as a 20% discount on the garage's labour rate in the UK. Fixter says it negotiates rates for parts, labour, oil and MOTs (fixter.co.uk). We've applied 20% to the whole job, so the real figure depends on how much of the job is labour.
- FixMyCar (formerly WhoCanFixMyCar) Starter package: £99 + VAT sign-up, £120 + VAT a month and a 10% flat fee on jobs won. Its commission-free plans cost £250–£999 + VAT a month (FixMyCar packages). We've shown the 10% only; the monthly fee is extra.
- MyLocalMechanic: £5 per completed booking plus Stripe's fee. Stripe's UK rates are 1.5% + 20p for standard UK cards, 2.8% + 20p for premium UK cards and 2.5% + 20p for EEA cards (stripe.com/gb/pricing).
